In May 2007, PROYA's Founder and Chairman, Hou Juncheng, led a team to Anhe Village in the northern mountainous area of Kongtong District of Pingliang City, Gansu Province, to establish the "PROYA Hope Primary School," aiming to provide educational opportunities for the local children. In 2019, Su Xiaodong, the current Principal of PROYA Hope Primary School, drove up the mountain road leading to PROYA Hope Primary School with a determination to become a good teacher, put in maximum effort to teach the students, and fulfill his own value.
As an education major graduate, Su Xiaodong initially did not pursue a career in teaching. However, upon rediscovering his teaching qualification certificate, he realized his passion for education and decided to pursue a teaching role. After successfully passing the civil service examination, he was transferred to PROYA Hope Primary School based on his exceptional performance. Subsequently, he was promoted to the position of principal, marking the beginning of Principal Su's journey with PROYA Hope Primary School.
Upon assuming his role at PROYA Hope Primary School, Principal Su encountered a multitude of challenges. With a small student population, Principal Su personally provides additional tutoring using multimedia resources after school hours. He also takes the initiative to engage with the many left-behind children to understand their family backgrounds. A slogan displayed on the cultural wall of PROYA Hope Primary School reads, "Fulfilling Responsibilities with Love, Embracing Education with Heart". Principal Su consistently emphasizes the importance of love as the cornerstone in student education, focusing on nurturing both their physical and emotional well-being.
Recognized for his exceptional performance, higher authorities proposed transferring Principal Su to a larger neighboring school. However, due to overwhelming reluctance from students and parents in Anhe Village, who even planned to appeal to authorities for his retention, Principal Su voluntarily chose to remain at PROYA Hope Primary School. District leaders respected this decision and honored the community's wishes.
In 2024, PROYA Hope Primary School commemorates the 35th anniversary of the National Hope Project and its 17th anniversary. Over these years, the school has evolved from a basic structure into a modern facility with well-equipped classrooms and recreational areas. The teaching faculty has been strengthened, significantly enhancing the educational environment and enabling diverse high-quality educational programs. Graduates symbolize both Anhe Village's hope and the nation's future. Principal Su is eager about the future of PROYA Hope Primary School, expressing his aspirations: "I aim to improve the school's preschool education, maintain a consistent student enrollment, further enhance the teaching staff, and prioritize moral education to foster holistic student development. My vision is for our students to evolve into competent individuals who will perpetuate the values of PROYA Hope Primary School.”
